2 Weeks Travel Itinerary in Indonesia

·

Q – We are planning to travel to Indonesia before heading on to Australia, and was bogged down with the sheer size of Indonesia. What itinerary would you suggest for us or where are the areas we should cover in Indonesia. Unfortunately, we only have 2 weeks before we need to get to Australia. We love a good mix of culture and history with some adventure, as we both dive. Can you please recommend us an itinerary?
– Rose and JD

Answer:
In trying to cover the top 10 must visit places in Indonesia, but still not overstress or rush yourself, yet able also to cover important cultural and history while also fit in diving and the beach, you may have play around this suggested itinerary:

Q – I am traveling as a solo female traveler to Indonesia and plan to travel for about 3 weeks. Where would you recommend that I go to which is safe and also good?
– Kayla

Answer:
So far Rachel had also traveled as a solo female traveler across Java in Indonesia, therefore that would be recommended by me, and also off to the nearby tourists’ sites that are popular and well traveled.

In trying to cover the top 10 must-visit places in Indonesia and play around with our 2 weeks travel itinerary, you may have a few nice additional places

Day 1 – Jakarta

Do a quick 1 day trip in Jakarta, this main city of Indonesia as you are most likely to arrive here via its international Airport.
-> Check out our Top 10 Things to do and Must See in Jakarta

Day 2 to 4 – Yogyakarta

If you want to save a day before or more time, you may fly directly into Yogyakarta, or if you are in Jakarta and would like to go by land, the scenic train ride is recommended. Yogyakarta is popular for the biggest Buddhist temple in the world, Borobudur and the ancient Hindu temple of Prambanan. Yogyakarta has also a lot to offer besides, such as arts, culture, history and everything else. 3 days in Yogyakarta would only give you a taste of what there is but good enough for our current itinerary.

Day 5 to 7 – Mount Bromo

From there move on to Mount Bromo at Eastern Java. This is one of our top must visit places in Java. Its sunrise view over the famous Bromo volcanic crater is the favourite among travellers. Once you got enough of the sunrise, grab some breakfast before trekking onwards to the mouth of the active volcanic crater. On the way you will also find a Hindu temple to visit. Thereon, you would head to Banyuwangi to catch a bus to get over to Bali.

-> check out our Guide to Hiking Mount Bromo

Day 8 to 14 – Bali

With 7 days to explore, you would be able to cover most of the Bali’s must visit places. In between, take the time to relax at some of the best beaches of Bali, eat the best foods, catch the famous Kecak Dance performance, visit some of the best temples in Bali and if you have the mood, try out some top activities in Bali.

Fly out from Bali, Denpasar international airport back to either Jakarta to many various places that this airport serves. Being one of the top destination in Indonesia, there are many flight connections via Bali.

Inclusive of travel days between places, the above plan is a comfortable 2 weeks itinerary for traveling in Indonesia. This suggested itinerary covers the best of Indonesia from city to cultural and historical, beaches and nightlife. The trip covers the two most popular regions – Java and Bali. Indonesia may have more to offer, but with this you would have a good taste of what it has to offer!

  1. Hi there!! I’ve been reading several blogs to plan my trip to indonesia and I’m def going to stick with this one :) So much information and such a niche design!
I’m going as a solo traveller and there’s so many things I want to see… but I prefer to choose a few of them and have the time to enjoy them.
I have 14 days and I would love to see Bromo and borobudur, but also gili and lombok sound pretty awesome. What would you recommend me? I’m going to spend a week in bali for sure, so I would like to know ur opinion on adding Java or Gili/Lombok to my plan.
Also, I’ve been reading that people recommend renting a scooter to get around bali, but I’ve never ridden one and I don’t feel confident with drivine one there. Is it easy to move around in taxi or any other transport?

    Thank you!!

If the trip can be stretched by a couple of days would you suggest including Bandung? How is the rail travel between Bandung and Yogyakarta? Can Borobudur & Prambanan be visited in a day?

    1. with a few days, Bandung can definitely be added in between Jakarta and Yogyakarta. Train travel in West Java is pretty good. With a rented car, one can visit both Borobudur and Prambanan in a day.
